چکیده

The integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) Version V05B and V06B precipitation products from the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission are validated against ground-based observations Kwajalein Polarimetric S-band Weather Radar (KPOL) deployed at Atoll in central Pacific Ocean. Such a validation is particularly important as comprehensive surface measurements over oceans practically infeasible, which hampers identification of possible errors, improvement future versions IMERG other satellite-based retrieval algorithms. their native 0.1°, 30 min resolution 2014 to 2018 based on both volumetric categorical metrics. This study indicates that rates underestimated with respect radar estimates, but underestimation much reduced V06B. outperforms systematic bias improved detectability. performance further traced back its individual sensors morphing-based overall mainly driven by negative relative biases algorithms largely corrected Imagers perform generally better than sounders because usage low-frequency channels imagers can detect emission signals hydrometeors. Among imagers, Microwave Imager (GMI) Advanced Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) best, followed Special Sensor Imager/Sounder (SSMIS). sounders, Humidity Sounder (MHS) Technology (ATMS) Atmospheric Profiling Intertropics Radiometry (SAPHIR) all categories, morph-only IR + morph only SAPHIR. Evaluation of IMERG and TRMM 3B43 Monthly Precipitation Products over Mainland China

As the successor of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission significantly improves the spatial resolution of precipitation estimates from 0.25 ̋ to 0.1 ̋. The present study analyzed the error structures of Integrated Multisatellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) monthly precipitation products over Mainland China from March 2014 to February 20...

Comprehensive Evaluation of Two Successive V3 and V4 IMERG Final Run Precipitation Products over Mainland China

The Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement Final Run (IMERGF) product has now been upgraded to Version 4 (V4), which has been available since March 2017. Therefore, it is desirable to evaluate the characteristic differences between the V4 and the previous V3 products. A comprehensive performance evaluation of the errors of the successive V3 and V4 IMERGF prod...

Evaluation of Error in IMERG Precipitation Estimates under Different Topographic Conditions and Temporal Scales over Mexico

This study evaluates the precipitation product of the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) over the Mexican region during the period between April 2014 and October 2015 using three different time scales for cumulative precipitation (hourly, daily and seasonal). Also, the IMERG data have been analyzed as a function of elevation given the rain gauges ...

Can IMERG Precipitation Estimates Suitably Replace TMPA Products For Brazil?

Knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation is of key importance for planning a wide range of socio-economic activities such as agriculture, livestock grazing, energy generation, etc. The availability of accurate and consistent precipitation data is then paramount for the proper assessment of such activities. However, traditional rain gauge measurements are relatively sc...

Validation of ERA-Interim Precipitation Estimates over the Baltic Sea

European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA-Interim reanalysis total precipitation estimates are validated against ten years of in situ precipitation measurements onboard of ships over the Baltic Sea. A statistical analysis for binary forecasts and mean rain rates derived from all data show a good agreement with observations. However, a closer look reveals an underestimation ...
